About Me
Sheri is the inaugural Associate Director for Student Sustainability. In this role, she provides leadership for the Student Sustainability and Advises the Student Sustainability Committee (SSC) to promote sustainability efforts on campus.
Prior to her role at the University of Illinois, Sheri has had a diverse career largely focused on environmental sustainability and social justice issues and has worked in the academic, not-for-profit, and for-profit sectors. Most recently, she was the Director of an innovative $4.6 million National Science Foundation S-STEM grant that provides scholarships, STEM research experiences, student success programming, and mentoring for STEM majors with high financial need attending Illinois Wesleyan University, Illinois State University, and Heartland Community College. Her Ph.D. research incorporated ornithology, conservation, and sustainable development.
Beyond her career, Sheri’s commitment to realizing a sustainable world can be witnessed by her enthusiastic membership in Wild Ones – a native plant organization – and through the restoration of her home property to native Illinois landscaping. She is also on the Board of Directors for Central Illinois FarmFED Co-operative, which aims to build infrastructure to provide local healthy food to local people. She is excited to get to work supporting the Student Sustainability Committee and the University of Illinois in fulfilling its mission of achieving sustainability on campus and beyond.
